Live Albums Are Still Alive
You arrived here searching for live music, either an audio recording, concert DVD, or memorabilia of your favorite artist at a music event that takes you back to some very special memories. While some outlets are getting a lof of traction lately by asking whether the live album is dead or not, new artists continue to embrace the live recording format. Wilco recently released, “Kicking Television.” The French band Phoenix has released Live in Sydney right on their website, downloadable in a zip file. Yaz (with former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke) is releasing Reconnected Live in September. Sure, the days of The Allman Brothers At Fillmore East, James Brown Live At The Apollo, Frampton Comes Alive or Grand Funk Railroad are no longer, but new live recording classics are being released every day, every bit as successful on their own terms. There’s nothing like the rhythm, sonic intensity, and enthusiasm of the crowd in a live recording to sweep you along into musical nirvana. We must continue to embrace this particular form of recording art so the incentive remains to record these musical bits of history for posterity.
