I thought Johnny Cash never went to prison?

I thought he played in prisons to get back at his wife who made fun of him because he’d never been to prison but all his fans were prisoners.

johnny cash lived a life of crime too. he had a history of drug abuse.he got busted by the feds for drug trafficking back in the 60′s/70′s that he even had his beloved wife june score pain killers for him too. (his drug addiction was to the point that he would even scurried on the floor for a button.)mistaking it for a pill.that is how bad it was to him.he felt he owed the prisoners a bit of gratitude for them being his fans.that’s how the story goes.no one had ever recorded a live album in prison.incidentally, merle haggard heard him while in prison and that is what got him into being a country star as well.God bless johnny and june carter cash for their attributes to country music.gone but not forgotten.

After the song Folsom Prison became a hit, he had the idea to actually perform it in a prison. It took over ten years before his idea became a reality in 1968.

“Cash first took interest in Folsom State Prison while serving in the U.S. Air Force Security Service. In 1953, his unit watched Crane Wilbur’s film Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison. The movie inspired Cash to write a song that reflected his perception of prison life. The song became popular among inmates, who would sometimes write to Cash, requesting him to perform at their prisons.”

Johnny was always kind of a rebel, especially his early years. It was his nature, he wanted to be the first, he wasn’t satisfied being normal, or blending, he had to have that unique or set aside quality! I’m from Arkansas, there was many a boy from east Arkansas, north Mississippi, and west Tenn., merge on Sun Records back in the 50′s. My daddy has a trunk full of Johnny, Jerry Lee, Elvis, and another fellow Arkie, Charley Rich’s records in his closet right now! Speaking of prison records, my daddy has the original Folsom Prison Album, back in ’68. Few years after the Sun days!
